Dhaka, Bangladesh - The President of Bangladesh has appointed Muhammad Yunus, a Nobel laureate and renowned social entrepreneur, as the country's new Head of Government.
Yunus, 84, has been a prominent figure in Bangladesh for decades, known for his pioneering work in microfinance and his advocacy for social justice. He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for his efforts to alleviate poverty through microcredit.
However, Yunus has also faced controversy in recent years. Earlier this year, a special judges court in Bangladesh indicted him and 13 others on charges terkait dengan a 2 million embezzlement case related to a microfinance organization he founded.
The indictment comes as a blow to Yunus's reputation and raises questions about his potential leadership. The case is still pending, and Yunus has denied any wrongdoing.
